Primary hubShenzhen is the default. If your product has a circuit board in it, the search for a supplier usually starts here — and it often ends here. This is the world's electronics manufacturing capital: more than 30,000 electronics-related factories, and a supply chain that runs from bare components through PCB design and assembly all the way to finished consumer goods.
The head start was deliberate. Shenzhen grew from a fishing town into China's first Special Economic Zone during the reform era, and decades of compounding investment in electronics produced a depth no other city has matched. Smartphones and accessories, smartwatches and wearables, Bluetooth speakers, power banks and chargers, LED lighting, drones, action cameras, 3D printers — all of it gets built here.
What really separates the city is cluster logic. Around Huaqiangbei, the world's largest electronics components market, sit thousands of design houses, prototyping shops and factories, with the manufacturing parks of the major contract manufacturers out in Bao'an and Longhua. An engineer can buy a component, revise a board and hold a new prototype faster here than anywhere else on earth. That speed is why hardware startups, crowdfunding projects and established electronics brands all keep a presence in the city.
Buyers here split into two camps. One needs genuine engineering — wearables, IoT devices, drones, audio — and works with design houses and contract manufacturers. The other trades finished goods out of the markets. A third group comes for something else entirely: Shuibei, China's largest fine jewellery trading centre, dealing in sterling silver, gold and gemstones, is a distinct cluster in its own right.
Shenzhen does not operate alone. Much of the volume production has migrated to neighbouring Dongguan and Huizhou, where costs are lower, leaving Shenzhen the engineering, design and trading functions. With Yantian and Shekou ports on one side and Hong Kong's airport and logistics thirty kilometres away across the bridge, plus the fastest customs clearance in China for tech products, it remains the best-connected export base in southern China.

Consumer electronics buyers of every stripe, especially where innovation, engineering depth or speed to market matters more than the lowest possible unit cost. If your product needs firmware, app connectivity, custom PCBs or rapid design iteration, that capability lives here. Expect a 15-30% premium over Dongguan or Huizhou for equivalent output, bought back in markedly better engineering support. Shenzhen is also the right base for fine jewellery sourcing through Shuibei, and for anyone who wants to combine factory visits with component-level research at Huaqiangbei instead of making two separate trips.

Watch-outs
Counterfeit components circulate freely in the markets, so provenance matters for anything safety-critical or brand-sensitive. The trader-to-factory ratio is high, and nowhere more so than Huaqiangbei: a polished showroom with a factory story is often a sample-room operation that subcontracts everything. Ask to see the production line, not the sample room. And chasing Yiwu-level pricing in Shenzhen usually means you have been quietly handed to a subcontractor.
Bluetooth Speakers
The same Shenzhen or Dongguan factory that builds a speaker distorting badly above 60% volume can, on a different line, build one that genuinely holds its own against established retail brands — the hardware base is that mature, and the gap between good and bad is almost entirely tuning decisions nobody puts in the listing. Pricing across the category runs from $3.50 to $95 FOB, and the real differentiators — driver quality, DSP tuning, amplifier class and chip choice — don't show up on a spec sheet at all. What does show up, if you know where to look, is battery capacity (commonly overstated, sometimes by half), IPX rating (frequently claimed higher than it tests), and Bluetooth chip tier, where the jump from a generic chip to a Qualcomm part costs $0.80 to $2.50 more per unit but changes pairing stability and codec support noticeably. A factory that welcomes a blind listening test and a pressure-chamber water test on samples is telling you something about how confident it is in its own numbers; one that stalls on either request usually has a reason.

Packaging is the part of a cosmetics launch that gets decided last and complained about first — a beautiful formula in a pump that stops dispensing after a few dozen uses is a returns problem, not a marketing problem. China's two packaging hubs specialise in different things: Yuyao in Zhejiang for plastic components, pumps and closures, and Cangzhou in Hebei for glass. Between them they cover almost everything a beauty brand needs, at prices from $0.10 for a simple cap to $8.50 for a fully decorated glass jar with metal collar and gasket. What separates a workable supplier from a risky one here is rarely visible in a product photo. Two airless pumps can look identical and yet one starts leaking air after a few hundred actuations while the other holds for thousands, and the difference only shows up once the formula has already started oxidising in a customer's bathroom. The same goes for PCR plastic claims, which are common and frequently overstated — genuine recycled content costs more, and pricing that doesn't reflect that is usually a sign the certificate won't survive a check. Indie and mid-size beauty brands buying for the first time tend to underestimate lead time and tooling cost. Both mould development and dye-lot colour matching take real weeks that are easy to lose if the artwork isn't locked before the factory starts cutting steel.

Huaqiangbei is simultaneously the best and worst place in the world to buy electronic components — the best because nowhere else has that density of stock, and the worst because genuine TI, ST Microelectronics and Murata parts sit on the same shelves as sophisticated counterfeits, sometimes in the same bin. For anything safety-critical or destined for a certified product, authorized distribution costs more but removes the authenticity question entirely; for everything else, market pricing is extraordinary, from fractions of a cent for passives to hundreds of dollars for specialised ICs, with lead times ranging from about 7 days for stock parts up to 90 days for anything requiring a production run. The failure modes here are different from most categories in this catalogue: counterfeit branded chips, recycled components resold as new, and date codes that have been remarked to hide their real age. None of this is visible without decapsulation, X-ray inspection or careful date-code verification, which is why component authentication is treated as a routine line item rather than an occasional check for anyone buying at volume. PCB quality — delamination, plating integrity — is a separate and more visible risk, generally easier to catch with cross-section microscopy on incoming samples.

Jewellery sourced from China spans two almost unrelated businesses under one category label. Yiwu supplies fast-turning fashion jewellery — plated brass and zinc alloy pieces priced in cents rather than dollars — while Shenzhen's Shuibei district does genuine fine jewellery in sterling silver and gold at a level that rivals Italian or Thai workshops, quietly supplying brands that never mention where their pieces are actually made. Between those two poles sits most of the market, with finished pieces running from around $0.30 to $280 depending on materials and stone setting. The recurring risk at the fashion end is nickel content and plating thickness — EU nickel-release limits catch out a lot of budget suppliers, and gold plating claimed at a premium micron count often turns out to be a fraction of that under XRF testing. At the fine end, the risk shifts to metal purity (sterling silver below 92.5% is more common than buyers assume) and stone security, since a cheap glued setting looks identical to a proper prong or bezel setting until the stone falls out in transit or on a customer's hand. Either way, XRF testing on incoming metal is cheap enough that skipping it is a false economy.

The phrase 'genuine leather' does a lot of quiet lying in this category. It's a legal description that covers everything from full-grain hide to split leather with a printed grain pattern to bonded leather — essentially leather dust glued back together — and all three get marketed the same way. Guangzhou's Huadu district is the largest leather goods cluster in the world, with Baigou in Hebei and Shenzhen filling the mid and premium tiers; finished bags range from $2.50 for a basic PU tote to $180 for full-grain pieces with solid brass hardware, and sample development alone can run 25 to 45 days. Buyers at the lower end are mostly optimising for landed cost and don't need to worry much about leather grade disputes. Above roughly $20 FOB, though, leather grade becomes the main risk: a cross-section check under magnification and a burn test on the actual material — not a swatch handed to you separately — tell you more than any spec sheet. Hardware is the other tell. YKK zippers and solid brass or properly plated zinc alloy cost more but don't peel or tarnish within a season, which is where most complaints in this category originate.

Most LED programmes succeed or fail on two components nobody puts on the spec sheet: the driver and the heatsink. A buyer can spend weeks negotiating lumen output and colour temperature and still end up with a fixture that dies in under a year because the driver's capacitors were undersized to hit a price point. China's Pearl River Delta — Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Foshan — has the deepest LED supply chain in the world, and pricing reflects it: complete fixtures run from around $0.80 for basic strip lighting up to $45 for engineered industrial and horticultural units, with lead times of 20 to 45 days depending on tooling. The buyers who do well in this category tend to split into two groups. Commercial and hospitality specifiers care most about consistent colour temperature across a large installation and genuine lumen maintenance over the fixture's rated life, since a mismatched batch is expensive to fix once it's installed. Ecommerce and retail brands care more about landed cost and certification coverage, because a fixture missing CCC, CE or UL/ETL simply can't clear customs or sit on a shelf in its target market. The tell for a serious factory is whether it will let you test before you commit to volume. Good ones welcome independent lab verification of lumen output and driver lifespan because they know their numbers hold up; the ones who get defensive about it, or who quote suspiciously round efficacy figures, are usually the ones cutting corners on heatsink mass or chip binning.
